Terms of Service - student project
In Fall 2025, a BFA student in Fine Art & Technology worked with the developers at ETS to create an interactive web application, as a part of her senior project that was later showcased in a gallery exhibition.
Author/Artist and Collaborator(s):
Student: Rachel Flash — Concept, Branding & UI Design
Dustin Miller (ETS) — Back-End & Full-Stack Development
Michael Hardesty (ETS) — Program Director & Project Support
Faculty Advisor: Laleh Mehran
Timeline:
Late October 2025 – December 2025 (BFA capstone exhibition at Urban Arts Space, Columbus; application development ongoing)
Project Goal:
To empower independent digital artists to reclaim creative time by automating the repetitive administrative work of managing and listing products across multiple platforms.
Description:
Terms of Service is an AI-powered web application designed for independent digital artists who spend a disproportionate amount of time on administrative tasks - writing product descriptions, generating tags, and duplicating listings across storefronts - rather than creating. The app streamlines this process through automated listing generation, giving artists back the time and energy their practice actually requires.
The project was conceived, designed, and branded by BFA candidate Rachel Flash, with back-end and full-stack development support provided by the Emerging Technology Studio. ETS also provided partial funding for AI tools and infrastructure. The application was built using Ruby on Rails 8, AWS deployment, and Claude AI integration via AWS Bedrock.
Terms of Service served as both a functional tool and the centerpiece of an interactive gallery exhibition at Urban Arts Space, where visitors engaged with the app and contributed their perspectives on AI's role in creative work.
