Computer Replacement Program
Program Mission
The goal of the replacement program is to provide full time faculty and staff a new primary computer every four years that will provide solid performance and security compliance throughout their tenure with the college.
Computer Selection Tool
If you are not sure which computer is right for you, please consider using our Computer Selection Tool. The tool will ask you a series of questions and then provide recommendations to you based on your answers. From there you will be able to send an email directly to ASCTech for procurement.
What computers will be replaced as part of this program?
The ASCTech computer replacement program operates on a four-year lifecycle.
Every four years, the primary computer used by full time faculty and staff will be replaced.
Are computer labs and/or graduate students included in this program?
We are unable to replace computers other than the primary computer of your department’s full time faculty and staff.
How did you select the computers in the college for replacement?
We perform an annual college-wide inventory audit from our service desk and narrow the scope of assets to produce an accurate list of primary computers assigned to eligible faculty and staff within the college.
Assets are then sorted by age, with replacing the oldest computers in the college as a priority.
What are the specifications of the ASC standard computers available under the refresh program?
I have a faculty member who really does not like any of the standard options. What do I do?
Please reach out to your ASCTech support manager and make accommodations for computers outside of the standard configurations.
Be prepared to make a business case for a non-standard computer.
Additionally, if the computer is more expensive than allocated per machine budget (currently $1,700), the department will be responsible for the funding gap. This should be a rare occurrence.
My faculty/staff member wants to keep their current computer. Is that allowed?
Due to the advanced age of the machines we are replacing, they must be returned to ASCTech for surplus upon the deployment of the new computer.
Additionally, the college follows the university policy that all items that are retired must go through the OSU surplus system (i.e. you are not permitted by university policy to directly purchase the computer from the university).
