AI-Powered PDF Remediation Tool
ASC Technology Services, in partnership with the University Libraries, has developed a new AI-powered tool to help faculty and staff remediate PDF files used in coursework and on websites, making them more accessible for all users. This tool is actively being refined based on user feedback, so we encourage you to try it out and share your experience.

Digital Accessibility 101
“Accessible” means a person with a disability has the opportunity to acquire the same information, engage in the same interactions, and enjoy the same services as a person without a disability in an equally effective and equally integrated manner, with substantially equivalent ease of use.
Accessible Course Content
CarmenCanvas is Ohio State’s learning management system (LMS) and was deployed for student and faculty use in Spring 2016.
The accessibility of an individual’s experience in CarmenCanvas depends on two things:
- The accessibility of the platform itself
- The accessibility of the content placed within CarmenCanvas
Accessible Digital Documents
To remove accessibility barriers in design and to ensure equality and inclusion of access and experience for differently-abled bodies, Ohio State provides accessibility training based on the idea of Universal Design to:
- Faculty
- Staff
- Students
Accessible STEM Content
Complex STEM content is genuinely hard to make accessible without some form of markup or tagging. In such cases, tools like Overleaf or Pressbooks with MathJax can accept LaTeX input and produce accessible output — so faculty write the STEM content they need, & accessibility is handled in the background.
