How many times have you been shopping online and wanted to have what you were looking at right now, instantly? While this works for digital files, it's been out of reach for physical object.
Want no more.
With the Makerbot Replicator 2x in the New Media Robotics Lab, plans for objects can be downloaded from the Internet and printed immediately. Ohio State graduate student TradeMark Gunderson described for ASCTech how the system works and the fascinating objects that result: for example, a 3D turntable that plays objects instead of records. The replicator is like an incredibly precise "3D hot glue gun" according to Gunderson, helping make this "that future where we can actually download things."
ASCTech is proud to support the New Media Robotics Lab.
