The Office of the Chief Information Officer will be upgrading current Lync users in the College of Arts and Sciences to a new Skype for Business service beginning in January 2017. As part of the upgrade process, the OCIO will replace your desk phone with a state-of-the-art unified communications system that has features to enrich the ways you communicate and collaborate.

Skype for Business includes enhancements to the Lync Instant Messaging and Presence service that you already use. It also has many exciting new features such as desktop sharing, conferencing, a mobile client, and unified messaging that allows you to receive voice messages in your email.

The ASCTech will release a schedule of planned migration dates in the near future. As you prepare for the upgrade, here are some important points that you should note:
  • To speed up the migration process, you may install the Skype for Business application on any iOS or Android mobile devices that you have in advance.
  • If you currently have voice mails accessed by dialing 614-292-4141, they will be removed from the system at the time your account is migrated to Skype for Business. Any existing messages will not be migrated.
  • Prior to your migration date, you will be sent a notice via ServiceNow. You must read this notice and accept it, or you will not receive Skype for Business.

More information and training resources will be available as the upgrade approaches. Any questions regarding Skype for Business can be directed to the IT Service Desk at 614-688-HELP (4357) or skypeproject@osu.edu.
