Meet the Staff: Mike Kaylor

Mike Kaylor

Note: Meet the Staff is a new feature that ASCTech will be publishing over the next few months to introduce staff members to the College of Arts and Sciences. We welcome your thoughts on it.

What's your background? Bachelor of Arts, certifications in PC hardware and Quality Matters (APPQMR) and Educause Learning Technology Leadership Program

What's something about you that other people find interesting or surprising? I have been a successful school team and Amateur Athletic Union basketball coach, with two top-five finishes in the AAU Boys Basketball National Championships.

What's something praiseworthy that a client has said about you? I received an Arts and Science 2015 Outstanding staff award

When Ohio State courses go online, Mike Kaylor, Director of Academic Technology for ASCTech, makes sure they have everything necessary to be optimal online delivery. "I review course syllabi for online course proposals." This is one facet of the teams he leads that "provide local instructional technology support for online and face-to-face courses, develop multimedia course content, and support audio/visual projects."

As part of the ASCTech Leadership team, Kaylor works with faculty, staff, instructors and students in the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as college leadership. His job grew out of an affinity for technology: "While I have always had an interest in technology, it was my interest in the cross section of new technologies and education that led me to my current career. I consider myself lucky to be in a position where new technologies in alignment with educational goals can be explored and implemented."
As anyone who has worked with Kaylor can attest, he brings energy to his job: "I literally wake up excited to come to work and interact with our clients and support the academic mission here in our college and more broadly at OSU."

If you need someone to help with your technology, request help from ASCTech and maybe you'll work with Mike Kaylor.
