The Art of Technology

Ken Rinaldo

Ohio State Professor Ken Rinaldo has created art installations in cites around the globe, including one for the Nuit Blanche festival for the city of Toronto. His secret? ASCTech.

As he put it in a talk with ASCTech, “When you think about Art and Technology, you're basically looking at the nexus of high technology and the arts,” so the assistance of ASCTech is not surprising. But the topics taught in these art classes are very surprising: “We teach 3d modeling. We teach animation. We teach rapid prototyping and we teach robotics, and we teach you how to use the World Wide Web as a tool of promotion but also as a tool of expression for making socially engaged works of art,” says Rinaldo.

ASCTech has frequently assisted with this work: “ASCTech has been so incredibly supportive in allowing us to try new forms of software, experimental software, but also supporting the 280 students that we're teaching every semester,” says Rinaldo.
