Note: Meet the Staff is a new feature that ASCTech will be publishing over the next few months to introduce staff members to the College of Arts and Sciences. We welcome your thoughts on it.

What's something not a lot of people know about you? I have dual citizenship. My parents were living as hippies in Prince George British Columbia, Canada, in 1972. A few years later they came back to the States with a plus one.

What is a successful day for you at work? When I make a breakthrough. I've had projects that frustrated me and when I finally figure out the piece of the puzzle that I was not looking at correctly, that's a great day.

What's your favorite client feedback? When my supervisor saw me combine two broken CD drives into one working one and declared it "genius!"

"I'm usually the person who likes to show up and say how can I help?" says Eric Drake, ASCTech systems manager, embedded in the Ohio State Department of Statistics. In his role, Drake supports "[Microsoft] Windows from server on down to desktop support. If it's Windows, I handle it: I maintain the Windows machines, update file servers, and build machines to distribute to individuals."

In addition to his bachelor's in linguistics with a minor in computer information systems, Drake has years of working with computers: "I started working with them around 10 or 12 years old, and I seemed to understand them pretty well so when it came time for me to figure out what I wanted to do, that was it."

Drake enjoys not only his job but also the work he does beyond it. "I get to help with the Ohio State Campus Campaign efforts, which I like because Campus Campaign is gives you an opportunity to be the change you want to see in the world. I like sustainability and I like trees, so I give to sustainability efforts like the Buckeye Forest Fund (Number 313814).

Need help with your computer? Request help from ASCTech and maybe you'll work with Eric Drake.
