Meta Quest Pro headset allows for experiences that seamlessly blend fully virtual and augmented environments, enabling users to experience virtual content overlaid onto their physical surroundings. Students can virtually walk inside a building they designed before it is built, train on a machine they don't have physical access to, conduct immersive performances, or experience scenarios and places they might encounter in their careers.

About Virtual Reality (VR)

The Emerging Tech Studio (ETS) offers cutting-edge virtual reality (VR) experiences, providing users with immersive and interactive environments that can simulate both real-world and imagined scenarios.

Through state-of-the-art VR headsets, controllers, and software, the Studio enables students to engage with educational content in a highly immersive and impactful manner. This technology seamlessly integrates into university education by offering students the opportunity to explore complex concepts, conduct virtual experiments, and participate in simulated professional environments. By leveraging VR, students can gain practical skills, enhance their problem-solving abilities, and develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter. The integration of VR in university education goes beyond traditional classroom boundaries, enabling students to transcend geographical limitations and providing them with unique learning experiences that can prepare them for real-world challenges.

About Augmented Reality (AR)

The Emerging Technology Studio (ETS) offers innovative augmented reality (AR) experiences, immersing users in a blend of virtual and real-world elements.

By leveraging AR technology, the Studio enables students to overlay digital content onto their physical environment, creating interactive and engaging learning experiences. This integration into university education enhances the learning process by allowing students to visualize complex concepts, manipulate virtual objects, and collaborate in real-time. AR experiences can be utilized in various educational disciplines, such as architecture, medicine, engineering, and design, enabling students to explore virtual prototypes, conduct virtual dissections, or interact with 3D models.

By bridging the gap between theory and practice, AR technology in the university setting cultivates creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, empowering students to actively participate in their education and preparing them for future professional endeavors.

Our VR and AR Experiences

The collection of VR and AR software in the ETS is always expanding.

The space primarily obtains and utilizes VR apps from Steam, the Oculus Rift Store, and the Oculus Quest Store. We primarily obtain AR apps from Magic Leap World and the Microsoft Store. ETS is also equipped with staff and resources to build custom VR and AR applications based on the department's curricular and research needs. Faculty and students can contact ETS to inquire about submitting a project proposal.

If there is an experience that sparks interest on any of the linked platforms, please contact ASCTech and we can look into making the app available for use.

Experiences from other sources may also be utilized on request.
