ASC Technology Services, in partnership with the University Libraries, has developed a new AI-powered tool to help faculty and staff remediate PDF files used in coursework and on websites, making them more accessible for all users. This tool is actively being refined based on user feedback, so we encourage you to try it out and share your experience.

Documents the AI Tool WILL Handle Well

  • Course Syllabi with headings, lists, and simple tables
  • Text-heavy documents with clear headings (reports, memos, policies)
  • Documents with straightforward tables (schedules, basic data)
  • Documents with simple photos or images that are easy to describe (single objects, portraits)
  • Documents that follow a clear logicial reading order from top to bottom

Documents the AI Tool WILL NOT Handle Well

  • Scientific papers with complex diagrams, charts, or graphs
  • Documents from hard sciences (biology, chemistry, physics) with specialized images
  • Documents with images that need cultural, historical, or discipline-specific context to understand
  • Art history documents with paintings, sculptures, or artwork requiring interpretation
  • Documents with images collages or multiple images combined to show one concept
  • Scanned documents (especially old or poor-quality scans)
  • Forms with fillable fields
  • Documents with complex multi-column layouts or unusual pages designs
